Analytical X ray is a well established form
of
non-destructive analysis utilized in multiple applications (see
Application Fields). X ray analysis comprises two main areas:
1) Wavelength dispersive spectrometry is used to determine elemental
composition and concentrations in material ranging from Boron
to Uranium in the PPM to 100% range.
2) Powder Diffraction is used to determine crystalline structure
of material.
Since most material has a unique crystalline structure, it is
most often used as quick method of chemical or mineral identification.
Diffraction can also be used to quantify chemical or mineral
concentrations. There are many other
techniques that can be adapted to this instrument, including
thin film determination, texture, and residual stress. |
